Whisk AI

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information the Whisk AI app and website (the “Service”) collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. The Service is operated by Nicola Preece (sole operator, Australia), trading as Whisk AI. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

You can contact us at any time at n.preece@outlook.com.

1. Account data and email address

To use Whisk AI you create an account. We collect your email address and authentication details (a hashed password, or an identifier from Apple or Google if you choose to sign in that way). If you set up a profile we also store your display name, handle, avatar image and bio.

We use your email address to sign you in, to send account and security messages such as password resets and email verification, and — only if you have turned it on — to send optional recipe emails. You can turn optional emails off in your account settings at any time.

2. App usage information

We store information about how you use the Service so it can work and improve: recipes you generate, view, cook or favourite, your cooking preferences and dietary requirements, pantry and shopping list items, cookbooks you create, your social activity (posts, comments, likes, follows, messages) and reports you submit. We also keep basic technical information such as device and browser type, app version and error logs, which help us diagnose problems.

3. AI features

Whisk AI uses generative AI to create recipes, suggestions and chat replies. When you use these features, the text you enter — along with relevant context such as your dietary preferences, pantry items or the recipe you are viewing — is sent to our AI model provider to produce a response. Responses are returned to you and saved to your account so you can find them again.

AI output can be wrong or incomplete, including about allergens and food safety, so always check it before you rely on it. Do not enter sensitive personal information into AI prompts.

4. Saved recipes and cookbooks

Recipes you save, upload or generate, and the cookbooks you build from them, are stored in your account so they are available across your devices. These are private to you unless you choose to share them — for example by publishing to the feed, sharing a cookbook link, or sending a recipe by email. Anything you share may be visible to other people, and content shared publicly may be visible to anyone with the link.

5. Photos and camera

The app asks for camera and photo access only when you choose to add a picture — for example a photo of a finished dish or a profile picture. Access is requested at the moment you use the feature and you can decline or change it later in your device settings; the rest of the app keeps working without it. Photos you add are uploaded to our storage so they can be shown in your recipes or profile. We do not scan or browse your photo library in the background.

6. Microphone and voice features

Voice features are optional. If you use hands-free cooking or voice input, the app asks for microphone permission and listens only while that feature is active. Speech is converted to text so the app can act on your request; the resulting text is treated like anything else you type, and where it is part of an AI request it is sent to the AI model provider. We do not record or store your audio for any other purpose, and you can revoke microphone access at any time in your device settings.

7. Subscriptions and payments

Whisk AI Membership is sold as an in-app subscription. Payment is taken by Apple through your App Store account (or by Google Play on Android). We never see or store your card details. We use a subscription management provider to tell us whether your membership or free trial is active; for that purpose it receives an anonymous identifier linked to your account and the purchase details from the app store.

You can manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. See our Refund Policy for refunds.

8. Notifications

Push notifications (for example cooking reminders) are optional. If you opt in, we store a notification identifier for your device so messages can be delivered. You can turn notifications off in the app or in your device settings.

9. Third-party services we rely on

We only share personal information with providers that help us run the Service:

  • Hosting, database, authentication and file storage — stores your account, recipes and uploaded images.
  • AI model providers — process the prompts and context needed to generate recipes and chat replies.
  • Email delivery — sends account emails and any optional recipe emails you have enabled.
  • App stores and subscription management — Apple and Google handle payments; our subscription provider tells us your membership status.
  • Push notification delivery — only if you have opted in.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use advertising networks, cross-app tracking or ad-retargeting, and the Whisk iPhone app contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. We may disclose information where we are legally required to, or to protect the safety and rights of users.

Website analytics. On our public website (whisk-ai.ai), and only if you choose “Allow” on the analytics banner, we use Google Analytics and the Google Ads tag to count page visits, taps on the App Store button and whether the download section was viewed, and to measure how well our Google Ads work. It does not record account details, recipes or anything you type, and personalised advertising is switched off. Viewing the QR code is not a download, and we cannot see who scans it. If you choose “No thanks”, no Google tags are loaded. You can change your choice by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

Some of these providers operate outside Australia, so your information may be stored or processed overseas under appropriate contractual safeguards.

10. Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account from your account settings in the app, or by emailing n.preece@outlook.com. When you delete your account we remove your profile, recipes, cookbooks, preferences and uploaded images, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute, where content has already been shared with or saved by another user, or where copies remain in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten.

11. Children's privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The kids' cooking section is designed for a parent or guardian to use with their child from the parent's own account: any child details you choose to enter, such as a first name or age range, are stored under your account, used only to tailor recipes, and can be removed by you at any time. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, authenticated access, and database rules that restrict each account to its own data. Passwords are stored hashed and are never visible to us. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and let us know immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

13. Your rights and choices

You can:

  • access a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct information that is wrong, out of date or incomplete;
  • delete your account and associated personal information;
  • withdraw camera, microphone or notification permissions in your device settings;
  • opt out of optional emails;
  • complain about how we have handled your personal information.

Email n.preece@outlook.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the Service, and the date at the top of this page will be updated.
